Fighting Randy Couture and Critics
Brandon Vera fights with a chip on his shoulder. At one point, he was considered to be one of the best up and coming fighters in the sport. He claimed that he was going to win both the light-heavyweight and the heavyweight title's, simulataneously. Yeah, it's never been done, but he looked so impressive in his first six UFC fights that many people believed him. Since those six wins, he's 3-3 and looking to return back to his dominant days.

Brandon Vera burst onto the scene of the UFC winning his first six fights and looking like it was inevitable for him to eventually become a champion. Then came three losses in four fights, the last to Keith Jardine. The first two losses came against Tim Sylvia and Fabricio Werdum. Those are three losses against three very respectable opponents, but it nearly caused Vera to retire from the sport. After the loss to Jardine, Vera contemplated retirement. He had a huge amount of critics wondering whether or not he had the heart and determination to be a UFC fighter. Since then, Vera has won two fights and is on his way back to the top.

At UFC 105, Brandon Vera will be handed an opponent who is very hungry to reassert himself as a contender. That man is also Vera's hero as a fighter. Vera has watched Couture as long as he's been a fighter. Those feelings will have to be put aside on Saturday night if Vera wants to continue his streak back to the top ranks of the light-heavyweight division. Couture has other things in mind. He has dropped back down from heavyweight to a class that fits him much better. He won't be outsized and he will be able to unveil a gameplan that he is much more comfortable with.
This fight should be a battle and it is the perfect opportunity for Vera to show the heart and determination that many people feel that he lacks. There is no one with more heart and determination than Randy Couture and if Vera can match his intensity in those areas he can possibly silence many of his critics. Win or lose, Vera must fight tooth and nail until he can no longer breath or he's left unconcious.
When Vera was considering ending his MMA fighting career, he had a conversation that changed his mind and brought him back with a new outlook on the sport. That conversation was with Couture. Couture helped him understand how hard he must train to be a successful fighter, something Vera had not done in the past.
All thoughts and feelings have to be put aside for at most fifteen minutes on Saturday night. At the end of the fight, you can expect to see both fighters show a high level of mutual respect, but expect to see an all out brawl from the starting bell to the final second.
