The Ultimate Fighting Championship takes their show to Canada for the first time ever for UFC 83

The Ultimate Fighting Championship will take their exhibit on the road for UFC 83: Serra vs. St. Pierre 2. The show will be broadcast live from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and will be the first UFC Event held in the country. The card will feature several Canadian fighters including Jason McDonald, Kalib Starnes, and the Interim Welterweight Champion, George "Rush" St. Pierre. The main event will feature St. Pierre in a unification bout against reigning Welterweight Champion Matt "The Terror" Serra.

St. Pierre captured the interim title by defeating celebrated former champion Matt Hughes, who was scheduled to challenge Serra for the title after their reality show series aired, but Serra pulled out due to an injury and St. Pierre stepped in on short notice and thoroughly dominated Hughes for a second straight time. Now St. Pierre is looking for revenge against the man who took his welterweight title in his first defense in convincing, 1st round stoppage, fashion. Serra was seen as a huge underdog entering the fight, but St. Pierre appeared unprepared and "The Terror" Serra took full advantage, pouncing on St. Pierre and ending the fight quickly.

Now the young and extremely well-rounded St. Pierre is looking to prove he is the best fighter in the star-studded division, while Serra is looking for validation as the legitimate 170lb. champion. St. Pierre once again is a big favorite, despite being defeated the last time these two stepped in the octagon. But rightly so. "Rush" St. Pierre has a much more impressive track record, with victories over former champions "The Prodigy" B.J. Penn, "The Muscle Shark" Sean Sherk, and two wins over UFC Legend Matt Hughes. George St. Pierre is confident he can regain his title and cement his legacy in front of his countrymen. St. Pierre is considered by everyone in the MMA Circle as one of the most gifted fighters in the world. But Serra's credibiltiy should not be discounted. He has been around a long time, taking on all comers and never backing down from a fight. In addition, Serra has outstanding Brazilian-Jiu-Jitsu and good boxing, not to mention, he is the champion.

The old cliche is true, styles do make fights, and it is possible that St. Pierre is just taylor-made for Matt Serra. In other exciting bouts, former middle-weight champion Rich Franklin will try to overcome two brutal losses to Anderson Silva and get back on the winning path against top contender Travis Lutter, and Michael "The Count" Bisping will have his inaugural fight since dropping down to the 185lb. weight division, taking on Charles "Chainsaw" McCarthy.
