The Ultimate Fighter's first season is an underrated gem no fight fan should be without.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship hasn't always been the multi-billion dollar machine that is currently is. The early going of the organization was extremely difficult as the league had a hard time shedding its image as a dangerous league of "barroom brawlers." But The Ultimate Fighter was the TV show that came along and helped change everything. The Ultimate Fighter DVD Show ReviewThe first season of The Ultimate Fighter was much different than the popular later seasons that are seen by millions of viewers on the cable TV network Spike TV today. The show was more based on explaining the nuances of a sport that had become so misunderstood over the year, and season 1 of The Ultimate Fighter does that job extremely well. The later seasons of The Ultimate Fighter seem to assume the viewer will know the difference between a triangle choke and a triangle choke as an example but in season 1 everything is explained in perfect detail. That makes it a great choice as a DVD gift for people seek to get into mixed martial arts and UFC for the first time. The Ultimate Fighter Season 1 FightersMany fan favorites and successful UFC fighters/mixed martial artists have come from the first season of The Ultimate Fighter. UFC fans who want to know more about some of their favorites like Forrest Griffin, Diego Sanchez, Chris Leben, and Josh Koscheck will be thoroughly entertained by the first season of the show on DVD. Leben is a hothead and an alcoholic basically who causes trouble just about every night in The Ultimate Fighter house while feuding with Koscheck, who eventually turns out to be a better fighter than him. Griffin enters the house with a nasty, swollen broken arm and shows his signature toughness as battles towards the UFC contract and title of being the next Ultimate Fighter. The Ultimate Fighter Show ChangesOn the season 1 DVD, many challenges such as throwing medicine balls through obstacle courses and carrying coaches Randy Couture and Chuck Liddell on recliners through a lake are part of the show's challenges and used as workouts that show the desire of the fighters to their coaches. These diversions are entertaining but are wisely done away with in later seasons as many fighters didn't seem to like them. It doesn't detract from the overall package, however. The Ultimate Fighter DVD Show Final Thoughs, ReviewThis season 1 DVD is easily worth the 10-20 dollars it's selling for on Internet sites and the uncensored nature and behind-the-scenes extra footage adds even more to an already great package. It makes a great gift for UFC fans who want a history lesson on the beginnings of the sport as a giant in the entertainment industry as well as the exploits and personalities of some of their favorite UFC stars.
