Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir - Main Event

Heavyweight Championship

February 2, 2008 at UFC 81: Breaking Point was in fact the breaking point for these two Heavyweights. Submitted by a kneebar, Brock Lesnar lost his second fight in his mixed martial arts career. This fight would be the foundation of the bad blood that infests within these two fighters.

It was announced by UFC president Dana White, that the winner of the UFC 91 main event between Brock Lesnar and Randy Couture would face the winner of the UFC 92 main event between Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Frank Mir, which would unify the two belts that hung around the waists of Couture the Heavyweight champion and Nogueira the Interim-Heavyweight champion.

November 15, 2008 UFC 91: Couture vs. Lesnar. Taking on veteran hall of famer and former UFC Heavyweight champion, Lesnar did what many thought he could not accomplish. In three minutes of the second round, Lesnar punished Couture with a vicious ground and pound after flooring the former champion and took his UFC Heavyweight title.

December 27, 2008: The Ultimate 2008 the two Ultimate Fighter coaches of season 8 much like himself Mir prepared to take on the submission artist in Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. In the second round a fatigued and frustrated looking Nogueira was TKO’d by Mir winning the Interim-Heavyweight title.

In a fight that was scheduled to take place at UFC 98, but was later postponed due to a knee injury suffered by Mir, will finally take place at UFC 100, both of these fighters’ steps back into the octagon to settle the score.

Georges St. Pierre vs. Thiago Alves – Co-Main Event

Welterweight Championship

With four of his last consecutive matches being championship matches, Georges “Rush” St. Pierre is no stranger to defending his Welterweight title. Having beaten BJ Penn in dominating fashion at UFC 94: Penn vs. St.Pierre 2. St., Pierre returns to the octagon once again putting his title on the line.

What started out as a bumpy road to championship gold for St. Pierre has now turned into a successful run as champion, as well as holding the number one ranking in the world in the welterweight division.

On a five fight win streak since his last lost to Matt Serra at UFC 65: Shootout, GSP has beaten Josh Koscheck, Matt Hughes for the interim Welterweight title, Matt Serra where he became the UFC Welterweight champion and successfully defended his title against both John Fitch and B.J. Penn.

In St. Pierre’s third consecutive title defence he meets “Pitbull” Thiago Alves. The 25 year old Brazilian Welterweight steps into the octagon on a seven fight win streak. Best known for his flying knee knock out over veteran and former UFC Welterweight champion Matt Hughes.

Alves first was seen in the octagon when he debuted at UFC Ultimate Fight Night 2 where he lost to Spencer Fisher via Submission. Alves went on to finish his next two fights by TKO both in the first round. In what seemed to be a fight night curse Alves lost to John Fitch in a fashion he had become a pro on TKO.

With only two loses in his UFC career Alves his been on a marathon to a title shot over coming John Alessio, Chris Lytle, Matt Hughes and Josh Koscheck to name a few. On Saturday July 11th, Alves steps back into octagon for the biggest match in his career a shot at Ultimate Fighting Championship Welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre
