Rampage and Tiki try again to get Team Rashad as Roy Nelson and Justin Wren get ready for the first set of quarterfinal matches and Matt Mitrione battles a head injury.
TUF 10 – Week 9 Recap
This week’s episode starts off with Rashad talking about the difficulties of having to train his team to fight against each other. After gathering the team, Rashad let’s them know that he won’t be coaching them, he says it going to be more like practice. After a warm up as a group, Wren and Nelson are separated to prepare for their bout.
Mitrione is seen talking about the injury he sustained after his match with Scott Junk. He says he has had a headache ever since and he’s been sensitive to light. Wren is seen confessing to the camera that he thinks Mitrione is faking.
During the drive home from practice Mitrione is seen moaning and groaning the entire ride home. Back in the house Mitrione goes straight to his room, later in the night Brendan goes to check up on him and finds him throwing up, which brings Brendan to the conclusion that Mitrione is suffering from a concussion. James McSweeeny is seen giving Kimbo props and telling him it looks like he’s in.
The next day at training, Rampage talks about Kimbo’s improvement and says he would like to see him get back in there. Meanwhile, Kimbo gets in some training with Tiki.
James McSweeny fills in the coaches about Mitrione, he let’s them know that Mitrione went to the hospital last night and he didn’t return this morning. While Team Rashad trains Rampage and Tiki has a surprise for them. “Rosters” Rampage and Tiki bring live rosters and put them in Rashad’s car. Rampage tells the camera that they feed the rosters a lot last night and they stink.
As practice wraps up Rashad is called out by one of the coaches who sees the rosters. Rashad comes out as Rampage and Tiki watch from their SUV and laughs as Rashad opens his car doors and sees the mess the rosters made of his car. Rashad and Team have a good laugh and spend the next few minutes chasing the rosters around the parking lot trying to gather them up.
Disappointed that they took it so well Quinton says he just can’t win, and reveals that he has one more prank up his sleeve.
Back at the house, Matt Mitrione returns, he’s greeted by Wes Sims who asks how his gynecologist appointment went. On the way down to his room Mitrione bumps into Kimbo. Kimbo asks how he’s feeling; Mitrione responds “they rattled my brain”.
Dana White makes a surprise visit to the house to check on Mitrione. He asks Mitrione how he’s feeling and if he thinks he can still compete. Mitrione says he can’t say no and says he’s still going to fight. Dana says as long as the doctor clears him to fight the fight is still on. Scott Junk takes the opportunity to jump in and let Dana know if Mitrione can’t fight he’s ready.
At the weigh-in Dana White says he’s still waiting to be impressed by Roy Nelson and that he was very impressed with Justin Wren’s first fight.
1st Quarterfinal Match Roy Nelson vs. Justin Wren
Wren starts off the first round pressing the action, both fighters trade blows. Wren gets the better of the stand up in the first round, Wren unloads and catches Nelson in a flurry of punches, but Nelson is able to hold on and finish the round.
In the second round the tables are turned as Nelson is the one connecting with jabs as Wren follows him around the octagon. Wren seems a bit tired and McSweeny is repeatedly heard telling him to keep his hands up for most of the second round.
Everyone expects the fight to go to a third round finding the fight pretty even, they announce that the fight is over which comes as a shock to the coaches and teammates. Dana White announces the Majority decision win to Roy Nelson who advances to the next round.
