UFC 92 The Ultimate 2008An Action Packed Night for MGM Grand Garden Arena
With two title fights and three huge match-ups preceding the title bouts, the Ultimate Fighting Championship proves yet again why they are on top of the MMA game.
Although none of the Pay-Per-View fights went beyond the third round, the much anticipated fights between the recognizable UFC fighters delivered an action packed evening for fans in the arena as well as at home. Evans Beats Griffin for Light heavyweight Belt Forrest Griffin sought to defend his title against the undefeated and now undisputed light heavyweight champion “Sugar” Rashad Evans. Griffin looked as if he would win the fight in the first two rounds with repeated attacks of punch kick combinations. With a nasty right Evans took advantage of Griffin’s sloppy form as he executed a right leg kick. After rolling around in the third minute of the third round, Evan’s managed to Lock up Griffin’s limbs as he annihilated Griffin’s face with punches. Evan’s ended the fight at 2:46 in the 3rd round with a TKO. Griffin, a good sport as usual, went through some play-by-play with Rogan, said a few jokes and congratulated Evans before exiting the octagon. Fear not Griffin fans a rematch could be looming. Mir TKO's Minotauro for Interim Title The most anticipated fight of the night came second to the headliner. Frank Mir, having beaten now heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar, knew going into this fight that either he or Antonio “Minotauro” Rodrigo Nogueira would have the next shot at the title. Mir is gunning for Lesnar and proved it by beating submission master Minotauro at 1:54 in the 2nd round. Mir, a Brazilian Jiu-jitsu black belt himself, refused to play the ground game with Minotauro and effectively executed and won a stand-up match. After winning the fight, Mir turned to Lesnar in the crowed and claimed the belt for his own. Lesnar should hit the gym hard and perfect his ground game if he expects to successfully defend his title against Mir, which will be the next heavyweight title fight. The Axe Murderer Falls to Rampage Perhaps everyone underestimated Quinton “Rampage” Jackson this time. Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva was supposed to have had this fight wrapped up, seeing as how he has mercilessly beaten Rampage twice. Rampage, on the other hand, had his own plans. With a perfectly skilled combination and placement, Rampage beat his rival with a knock out at 3:21 in the 1st round. The Hammer Comes Out on Top Coming off a big loss to Rich Franklin on September 6 of this year at UFC 88- Breakthrough Matt “The Hammer” Hamill had everything to prove and more to lose. Although Hamill and Reese “Riptide” Andy came in with 2 loses a piece, Hamill demonstrated better control and skill. Hamill pulled out a win by TKO in round two. Dollaway Wins This Time CB "the Doberman" Dollaway met Mike “The Mater of Disaster” Massenzio in the Octagon for a much anticipated grudge match. While in college, Dollaway and Massenzio competed against one another in a close wrestling match. Dollaway walked away the victor. Because both fighters have similar skills and backgrounds many expected this to be a grudge match ending in a decision; however, Dollaway quickly ended the fight with a TKO three minutes into the first round.
