Recap of Who Won the Non-TUF fights at the Finale

Results from the three matches on the Ultimate Fighter Finale card that weren't Team UK Vs Team US.

Stevenson Vs Diaz

In the lightweight division Joe Stevenson and Nate Diaz lock up.

Diaz refuses to touch gloves at the start of the match. Stevenson gets a quick takedown but Diaz counters by looking for a guillotine. Stevenson escapes and tries for the ground and pound.

Diaz gives Stevenson his back and Stevenson ties him up in a crucifix and lands rights with his free hand. Diaz gets out, but Stevenson looks for a guillotine of his own. Diaz gets away by using the cage to flip over.

Stevenson drives Diaz to the fence and knees him in the head. Diaz drops to one knee, thereby becoming a “downed opponent” and preventing Stevenson from delivering any more knees to the head. Stevenson continues to knee him in the body to the horn.

Stevenson gets the fast takedown again and Diaz counters with yet another guillotine attempt. They roll to the cage where Stevenson lands knees. Diaz takes one knee again.

Diaz gets back to his feet and they go to the fence where Stevenson takes him down again. Diaz strikes from the bottom and looks for the triangle. Diaz gets back to his feet. Stevenson takes him back to the cage and keeps him there till the horn.

They come out trading in round three. Stevenson goes for a takedown. Diaz is doing his best to stay standing and throw punches.

Diaz takes Stevenson down and lands some body shots, continually trying for the guillotine choke.

Stevenson finds the knees again and Diaz takes the downed position once more. The two stand and trade with Diaz busy in the final seconds of the match up.

Winner by unanimous decision, (29-28) Joe Stevenson.

Lytle Vs Burns

In the welterweight showdown, Chris Lytle takes on Kevin Burns.

Lytle comes out throwing first, and hard. They slug it out, back and forth, as the pace begins to slow.

Burns is throwing a lot of kicks, and lands a big right to Lytle’s head. They continue to trade with neither fighter gaining a clear advantage.

Burns is still landing kicks as well as answering Lytle’s punches. Burns gets more aggressive with his strikes, connecting a knee and controlling the Octagon more.

Lytle gets hit with a low blow. When the match resumes Lytle is more aggressive but gets caught with a big uppercut that buckles his knees. Burns moves in with a right to the head and Lytle goes down.

Burns is on him, landing rights to the body but Lytle is able to maneuver back to his feet. Both men go back to the mat as Burns is still looking to press the advantage but Lytle is recovering.

They clinch and Burns is pushed to the cage. They trade knees. Burns lands a big elbow and Lytle is backed up. Burns advances, opening up on Lytle with big shots.

Lytle is looking unsteady as he backs away. Burns follows and lands knees to the horn.

Burns comes out aggressively in round two, landing a punch and a kick. Lytle seems to have timed Burns shots, as he catches Burns’ next kick and tags him with a right hook.

Lytle hits a kick and another big right. Burns is rocked, and retreats. The two trade. Burns is looking tired now and Lytle is working the body shots effectively.

They trade back and forth, each looking to have the advantage by turns. Lytle continues to advance working the body shots and kicks. The two fighters slug it out for the final seconds.

Round three starts with Lytle catching another of Burns’ kicks, and opening him up near the left eye with a huge right. Burns lands two knees to Lytle’s chest and keeps trying to connect with the knees and kicks.

Lytle is targeting the cut on Burns’ brow, going for the rights as Burns is showing fatigue again, keeping his hands low. Lytle is in control, but Burns is still throwing and landing. The two stand toe to toe till the horn.

All three judges score the bought 29-28 for Chris Lytle.

Sanchez Vs Guida

The main event of the evening is the lightweight battle between Diego Sanchez and Clay Guida.

Sanchez comes out swinging and does not stop. Guida answers a couple strikes but Sanchez just brings more, kneeing and punching relentlessly for the first minute of the round.

Guida is already a bloody mess but he takes Sanchez down. Keeping his elbow on Sanchez’s neck, Guida lands his own strikes and body shots. When Sanchez finally gets up halfway through the round, he is also bloody.

Sanchez lands a huge kick to Guida’s face and knocks him down, but not out. Sanchez moves in but cannot finish. Sanchez lands a flying knee, strikes, and several unanswered uppercuts.

Guida charges and pushes Sanchez to the cage. Sanchez circles and takes Guida down. Guida gets back up and they trade to the horn

Sanchez goes for another big kick to start round two but Guida blocks it this time and takes Sanchez down. Sanchez lands elbows from the bottom. Guida is looking for some ground and pound, landing elbows of his own.

Sanchez tries for a kimora but Guida defends. Guida gets Sanchez to the fence and starts pounding, while still on the mat in full guard. Sanchez is responding with a flurry of elbows to Guida’s head while still on his back. The horn ends a very bloody round two.

Round three starts with the two exchanges strikes. Sanchez moves in and slips but Guida can’t capitalize. Guida tries for a takedown but slips to his knee. Sanchez takes his back but Guida turns and has the full mount.

Sanchez finds the arm and goes for a triangle, then another kimora. Guida gets out and lands strikes to the end of the match.

Sanchez wins by split decision.
