UFC's Ultimate Fighter Results for May 6Recap of Spike TV’s The Ultimate Fighter
Martin Stapleton fights Cameron Dollar, and Frank Lester squares off against James Wilks.
The Lightweight battle of Stapleton vs Dollar is announced, after which Team UK coach Michael Bisbing apologizes to Dean Amasinger for missing his match on the previous episode. Bisbing explains he has been suffering from jet-lag and lack of sleep since arriving in America and slept through the fight, a reason Bisbing himself calls pathetic and inexcusable. During training Stapleton’s teammates note that he does everything perfectly in his matches and Ross Pearson predicts Stapleton “will win by pulling off (Dollar’s) arm and beating him with it.” In Team US’s training session, coach Dan Henderson says he wants to work on Dollar’s stand-up, setting out a game plan of taking Stapleton to the fence with fast, light punches, then going to the ground. “My stand-up’s terrible,” admits Dollar. Stapleton Vs DollarStapleton starts with the early offence, backing Dollar into the fence and taking him down quickly. Dollar gets right back up and counters with a takedown of his own and gets Stapleton’s back. Stapleton escapes an attempted Rear Naked Choke, but Dollar is still holding tight to Stapleton’s back. A second Rear Naked Choke causes Stapleton to tap one minute and 30 seconds into the match. This brings Team US even, with both teams now holding two victories. Henderson says, “the look of shock on Bisbing’s face was as nice as I expected it to be.” Bisbing meanwhile is “devastated for Stapes. To say I was upset is a massive understatement.” $100 Per Tooth Challenge The Welterweight match up is set for Frank Lester to take on James Wilks. Both teams are happy to see this match up. While Wilks says he has no personal issues with Lester, the American gives an explicative-laden interview declaring his intense hatred for Wilks. Henderson is concerned that Lester is too excited and during training tries to make Lester sit and relax to help control his emotions. During Team US’s van ride back to the house, Damarques Johnson offers Lester $100 for each tooth of Wilks’ that Lester knocks out during their fight. Lester Vs WilksWilks starts strong with jabs and kicks, while Lester is throwing some bombs. Wilks goes down on the fence and looks for a leg lock, but Lester gets away only to slip in the centre of the Octagon. Wilks gets side control and lands some knees to Lester’s ribs. Both men scramble for position on the mat, with not a lot of offence for either. They are back to their feet with two minutes remaining and trade some good punches. Lester is backed into the fence where Wilks lands a kick to the chest and two hard knees to the face, causing Lester to push his mouthpiece out and bloody up. The final 30 seconds of round one are spent with Wilks covering Lester on the ground, though neither fighter is doing much more than catching his breath. Back in his corner Lester tells his coaches, “My teeth got knocked out.” They are now embedded in his mouthpiece, causing problems with it being replaced in his mouth and delaying the start of round two. The teeth are pried out of the mouthguard as referee Steve Mazzagatti quips “put the tooth on ice” and round two begins. Wilks gets an easy takedown and is dominant early on, as Lester seems tentative. The two exchange blows on the fence and jockey for position in the clinch. A couple big punches put Lester down at 2:30. Wilks moves between full mount and side control, where he locks in an Armbar for the submission victory.
